Hiking Trails in the Tatras
Zakopane is a true paradise for mountain hiking enthusiasts – a network of trails here connects picturesque valleys, high alpine ridges, and crystal-clear lakes.
For an easier experience, we recommend a walk through the Dolina Kościeliska, where limestone rocks hide caves and waterfalls. Families will love the short hikes to Gubałówka or Nosal, rewarded by panoramic views of the town and the Tatras.
More advanced hikers will appreciate the challenging ascent to Giewont or the trek across the Czerwone Wierchy, offering stunning vistas of snow-capped peaks. And no visit is complete without the iconic route to Morskie Oko – a gentle yet long trail perfect for a full-day trek.
Gubałówka
Gubałówka is a picturesque ridge overlooking Zakopane, easily accessible by the popular funicular railway starting from the town center.
The hike on foot from Krupówki takes about 45 minutes through the forest, ending at a panoramic viewing terrace. From the summit you can enjoy an extensive panorama of the Tatras and all of Zakopane, making Gubałówka an ideal spot for sunrise or sunset.
In summer you can try a bike descent on the gravity bike track here, and in winter you can bring skis or a sled and use the illuminated downhill runs. Regardless of the season, Gubałówka is a must-visit point on any trip to the Polish mountain capital.
Rusinowa Polana
Rusinowa Polana is a picturesque, open meadow situated between Giewont and Kopa Kondracka, reachable via a comfortable trail from Kuźnice through Polana Kalatówki in about 1.5 hours.
From the meadow you can enjoy a breathtaking view of Zakopane, the High Tatras, and the upper section of the Dolina Kościeliska, particularly captivating at sunrise and sunset.
On site stands a historic wooden shepherd’s hut museum, where you can learn about the pastoral traditions of Podhale. Thanks to its gentle ascent, Rusinowa Polana is an ideal destination for both families and nature photography enthusiasts.
Termy Chochołowskie
Termy Chochołowskie is the largest thermal bath complex in the Polish Tatra Mountains, located in the picturesque Dolina Chochołowska. The highly mineralized water (sulphur-sulphide) is perfect for relaxing muscles after mountain hikes and supporting joint regeneration.
On site you’ll find indoor and outdoor pools at various temperatures, slides, water jets, and a spa and wellness area.
Thanks to panoramic windows and open space, the baths are surrounded by the majestic walls of Tatra peaks, creating an unparalleled atmosphere. It’s the ideal place for family relaxation, a romantic getaway, or recovery after a day on the trails.
Kasprowy Wierch
Kasprowy Wierch is one of the most iconic peaks of the Polish Tatra Mountains, rising to 1,987 m a.s.l. The easiest way to reach it is by cable car from Kuźnice, allowing even non‐hikers to enjoy the panorama of the High Tatras.
At the upper station you’ll find mountain trails— in summer leading to Świnica and across the Czerwone Wierchy, and in winter Kasprowy Wierch transforms into a popular ski area with well-groomed slopes.
